Bassface Sascha & Franksen - Jazz In Motion EP (Blu Saphir 030)

Blu Saphir's first release of 2016 sees Germany’s true school jungle pioneer Bassface Sascha team up with his long-time buddy Franksen, putting together a mighty effort in the Jazz in Motion EP. Together they released on labels such as Visionary’s Dance Rock, Sidechain Music, Beatalistics and many more. This highly musical yet pushing EP has been a while in the making - and we’re proud to say we know why… pure quality here!

Bassface Sascha is coming off the back of a bunch of releases in 2015, alongside Feindsoul (on Addict with another to come on Trex's Street Music Remix EP), a well alarming soundshot on the Navigator LP (“Sound The Alarm” also featuring Skarra Mucci), topping some download charts for weeks, and a ready and rollin’ contribution to the Ammo Box V.1 EP on Natty Dub. Remaining hungry and fierce whether it comes to knowledge, vibes or technique, things are looking up for this DJ and producer legend who eats and breathes bass.

Franksen has a long list of releases: collabos in D&B, plus going solo in terms of deephouse for top labels from Suara to Plastic City, Besides, he runs the local club night Knietief In Beats in the Rhein-Main area, one of the longest standing German D&B events, goin’ strong in its 16th year. Franksen works as a radio host and credited author. Classified on his facebook page for house, breaks, and electronica, we're happy he’s into drum 'n bass too.

Jazz in Motion is an extremely versatile EP, showcasing new school sounds, while also paying homage and digging into the crates of the artists that established this great movement.

Style & Fashion is a liquid roller whose sweet female vox, organic basslines, fresh keys, and fantastic arrangement brings you back to the days of Roni Size & Reprazent. In a place where so many sounds are synthesized and computers are taking over, even the drum 'n bass purist will take a liking to these.

Basslicker begins like a walk in the park – smooth vibes, a half time beat, scratch samples and a loose male vocal. The uptempo drop comes quickly, while keys accent the atmosphere. The basslines get funky like in the early days of A-Sides and MC Fats. The second half of the tune brings a more gritty bass, allowing this number to fit the vibe in so many different ways.

Loveline is as sweet as it comes. A duality of female versus male vocals open the tune, while  a quick crescendo takes place to bring the drop. Aggressive basslines will undoubtedly turn the dance floor rockers into free flowing spirit. This one's too good to miss out on.

Finishing off the EP, Ruff Times brings everything into the fray that we love about liquid drum 'n bass – sweet guitar riffs, strings, keys, deep bass, and an uplifting drum beat. A quick vocal hits, and the organic bass drops again. Sounding so much like the stylings of Roni Size's seminal classic, Brown Paper Bag, all we can say about this one... 'rinse it out propa!'
